How Vetara Protects Your Pet’s Data

Your pet’s health data is personal. This page explains how Vetara handles it — what we collect, how it’s protected, and what controls you have.

Your data is protected

Encrypted in transit. All data transmitted between the Vetara app and our servers uses TLS encryption — the same standard used by banks and healthcare systems.

Encrypted at rest. Data stored on our servers uses AES-256 encryption. Even in the event of unauthorized physical access to storage infrastructure, encrypted data is unreadable without the keys.

Access-controlled at the database level. Your data is protected by Row Level Security (RLS), enforced by the database engine on every operation. A user can only read or write data belonging to their own household. This isn’t an application-layer check — it’s enforced at the database level and cannot be bypassed by the app.

No passwords stored. Vetara uses email-based one-time passcode authentication. There is no password to create, store, or have compromised.

Hosted in the United States. Vetara’s backend runs on Supabase, hosted on secure cloud infrastructure in the US West region.

What we do not do

We do not sell your individual health data. The specific symptoms, medications, scores, and observations you log are not sold to any third party in a form that identifies you or your pet.

We do not share your data with advertising networks. Your health data is not provided to ad networks or data brokers for targeting purposes.

We do not give third parties access to your records. There is no external portal, API, or dashboard that allows outside companies to browse individual users’ health data.

What we collect

Your email address. Used for sign-in authentication and household invitations. Not required in local-only mode.

Your display name. Used to attribute actions in shared households (e.g., “Medication given by Sarah”). Visible only to your household members.

Your pet’s health data. Events, medications, appointments, workflows, meal plans, reports, and all associated data you enter into the app. This is only collected for YOUR use, to serve your health goals, we do not collect the data for third party use.

Anonymized usage analytics. A first-party analytics system (built in-house, not a third-party service) tracks usage events like “a user logged a stool event” or “a user generated a report.” These events contain no pet names, owner names, health details, medication names, or personally identifiable information — only internal numeric identifiers. This analytics data helps us identify bugs and understand which features are used.

We do not collect your location, contacts, browsing history, advertising identifier, or data from other apps on your phone.

How the app uses your data

Vetara is a health tracking and analysis tool. The app processes the health data you enter — stool scores, medication history, symptom patterns, dietary changes — to deliver features like health insights, daily checklists, pattern detection, personalized recommendations, and vet-ready reports.

This processing happens within your account, either on your device (in local-only mode) or within your household-scoped database records (in synced mode). It is separate from the anonymized analytics described above. The analytics system tells us that features are being used. The app’s feature engine uses your data to make those features work for you.

Your controls

Data export. You can export your pet’s health data from the app at any time.

Account deletion. You can delete your account and all associated data from within the app. Deletion is permanent and removes your data from our servers.

Local-only mode. You can use Vetara without creating an account. In local-only mode, all data stays on your device and is never transmitted to our servers. Multi-device sync and multi-caregiver features are unavailable in this mode.

Looking ahead

As Vetara grows, we may introduce new features and capabilities — such as product recommendations, partner integrations, or AI-powered tools. When we do, we will update this page to reflect how those features handle your data before they launch. Our commitment is to be transparent about changes and to give you the information you need to make informed decisions about using those features.

Changes to this page

If we make material changes to how your data is collected, used, or shared, we will update this page and notify users through the app before the changes take effect.
